First things first… what does BUMBOCLAAT mean?

Ah. The question we knew was coming.

BUMBOCLAAT is a Jamaican word with a lot of personality. Depending on who’s saying it, how loudly they’re saying it, and what happened five seconds before, it can express shock, anger, disbelief, excitement or just add a little extra seasoning to a sentence.

Is it a swear word? Absolutely.

Is that all it is? Absolutely not.

Around here, BUMBOCLAAT is about being BORN LOUD! Unfiltered, unapologetic and impossible to ignore.

Is BUMBOCLAAT a Jamaican brand?

BUMBOCLAAT is Jamaican born and Canadian built.

The brand comes from decades of life, culture and creative work in Jamaica, and is now being built from Toronto.

Jamaica made the attitude. Toronto gave it a new address.

Oh Yeh? It looks like cultural appropriation to me!

Fair. We knew it would come up.

BUMBOCLAAT wasn't created by someone who discovered Jamaica on vacation and thought the word looked cool on a T-shirt.

Our founder, Quizz, grew up in Jamaica, is a citizen of Jamaica, sounds like a bumboclaat Jamaican, built her life and career there, raised her family there and spent decades working in Jamaican entertainment and culture before moving to Canada and starting BUMBOCLAAT. She's legit.

Does that mean everybody has to love the name? Absolutely not.

It's Jamaican. It's controversial. It's loud. And people are going to have opinions about it.

We're not trying to claim ownership of Jamaican culture or sanitize it for everybody's comfort. BUMBOCLAAT comes from a real relationship with Jamaica, a real story, and a whole lot of respect for the culture that shaped it.

What does BORN LOUD mean?

BORN LOUD is the philosophy behind BUMBOCLAAT.

Some people spend their lives trying to fit neatly into the room.

Others walk in and change the temperature.

Those are our people.

What do the DROP:Q01, DROP:Q02 and 1122 prints mean on BUMBOCLAAT gear?

They're not random.

DROP:Q01 / DROP:Q02

The Q is for Quizz, BUMBOCLAAT's founder and designer. The numbers mark each new Quizz-designed drop—a little timestamp in the BUMBOCLAAT story.

This one's personal.

Quizz has 1122 tattooed on the inside of her right wrist, facing her which is why you'll find it in the same spirit on BUMBOCLAAT gear: in the same position on the long sleeved pieces, on the right sleeve of the short sleeved tees and the right side of our hats.

In numerology, 1122 combines the master numbers 11 and 22 and represents turning visions and dreams into reality through intuition, balance, hard work and fresh starts.

11 represents new beginnings and trusting your gut.
22 is the Master Builder, turning the big idea into something real.

So 1122 has become a BUMBOCLAAT signature: trust the vision. Do the work. Build the bumboclaat thing.

Do you have anything without the word BUMBOCLAAT on it?

We do indeed.

Why does my order take a little longer to ship?

Because we're not sitting on a warehouse full of thousands of shirts.

ALL BUMBOCLAAT pieces are made to order. Once you place your order, your piece goes into production specifically for you.

That means a little more patience and a lot less unnecessary inventory and waste.

How long will my order take?

Production and shipping times vary depending on the item and destination. Weekends and holidays tend to tack a couple days on to the order because "business days".

Production can take up to a week but usually only 2 or 3 days. Shipping in Toronto is usually next day and up to a week to the States (see "business days" above).

You'll receive tracking information once your order ships. Please remember that international orders (yes, including the States) can also experience customs or carrier delays outside our control.

Does BUMBOCLAAT ship outside Canada?

Yep. We ship pretty much everywhere.

But we're gonna be straight with you: shipping BUMBOCLAAT outside North America can get bumboclaat expensive.

We're an independent brand making most pieces to order, not Amazon with a warehouse on every continent so international shipping rates can sometimes hurt a little.

The good news? You'll see the shipping cost before you pay, so there are no surprises from us at checkout.

We're constantly looking for better international shipping options as we grow because we want BUMBOCLAAT everywhere.

Until then, we charge what it costs to get it to you.

Worth it? We think so. 😏

Will I have to pay duties or import fees?

Possibly.

International orders may be subject to customs duties, taxes or import fees imposed by your country. These charges aren't included in your BUMBOCLAAT order and are the responsibility of the customer.

And then there are tariffs.

Tariffs. Apparently they're having a moment. 👀

We don't make the rules. Governments stay governmenting.

Any duties, taxes, tariffs or import fees are determined by your local authorities and are unfortunately outside our control.

Can I return or exchange something?

Because our pieces are made to order, all sales are final.

But if your item arrives damaged, defective or we sent you the wrong thing, that's different. Contact us with your order number and photos and we'll help sort it out.

How do I know what size to order?

Check the size guide on the product page before ordering.

Fits can vary slightly between styles, so don't just assume you're a Medium because you've emotionally identified as a Medium since 2007.
